Netalzul Creek Wildfire #R31901

August 27 Update:

Based on a recommendation from BC Wildfire Service, the Evacuation Alert for the Suskwa River Area (see map below) has been rescinded (cancelled) as of 12:00pm on August 27, 2024. 

An Evacuation Alert may need to be reissued if conditions degrade; however, if that is deemed necessary, a notification of the Evacuation Alert or Order process will re-commence.

August 21 Update: 

Although fire activity for the Netalzul Creek wildfire has slowed thanks to efforts from BC Wildfire crews and more favorable conditions, the Suskwa River Area evacuation alert will remain in effect due to the risk associated with upcoming weather systems.


Due to increased fire activity at the Netalzul Creek wildfire (#R31901), the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is issuing an Evacuation Alert for six properties along the Suskwa River. Firefighting personnel, heavy equipment, and a helicopter are responding to this fire.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant as the situation can change quickly.

Corya Creek Wildfire #R32019

Although fire activity for the Corya Creek wildfire near Witset has slowed thanks to efforts from BC Wildfire crews and more favorable conditions, the Two Mile Area evacuation alert will remain in effect due to the risk associated with upcoming weather systems. 


Due to increased fire activity at the Corya Creek wildfire (#R32019), Witset First Nation and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine are issuing an Evacuation Alert for an area near Witset, detailed in the map linked below. Firefighting personnel, heavy equipment, and helicopters are responding to this fire.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant as the situation can change quickly.

Wildfire Information Notices

Information updated as of 6:30 p.m., August 18, 2024.

Pontoon Creek Wildfire #R50969

Update: 5:00 p.m.

Kitsumkalum Band and the RDKS have been informed by BC Wildfire Service that the Pontoon Creek Wildfire #R50969, located near the south end of Kitsumkalum Lake, is under control.

Fire activity has been greatly diminished, and crews are establishing a hoselay around the fire to allow for water delivery along the entire perimeter.

The previously closed campgrounds in the area (Hart Farm Recreation Site, Kitsumkalum Provincial Park (Goat Creek), Red Sand Lake Recreation Site, and Ackerman Point Recreation Site) are now open. 

Please be cautious in forested areas, and remember that there is still a province-wide ban on campfires.

On the evening of July 15, 2024, the RDKS was informed by BC Wildfire Service about the Pontoon Creek Wildfire, located near the south end of Kitsumkalum Lake.

Crews are currently working on site. Campgrounds in the area are inaccessible until further notice, including the Hart Farm Recreation Site, Kitsumkalum Provincial Park (Goat Creek), Red Sand Lake Recreation Site, and Ackerman Point Recreation Site. We remind the public to please stay out of the area and let the crews do their work.
