BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the Category 1 campfire prohibition in the Skeena and Bulkley Fire Zones.

The Stage 2 watering restrictions implemented earlier this summer have been lifted.

With unseasonably hot weather in parts of the RDKS, major rivers and tributaries around Hazelton, Kispiox and Terrace are on flood watch. In preparation for possible high water events and flooding, the RDKS will issue flood preparedness info on our website and on our social media channels.

The Thornhill Fire Department hosts an interactive open house this Saturday, May 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come on by and support your community. There will be live demonstrations, Information and recruitment packages, Fire Smart Information and Emergency Support Services (ESS) all available to answer questions.

The Upper Skeena Recreation Centre's Park Development Plan is entering a new phase after last week's public open house. Those who attended saw conceptual designs for the redevelopment of the former Ken Trombley Arena site into outdoor community spaces.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine’s contractor Binnie will be onsite at the Upper Skeena Recreation Centre doing a public information session and gathering public input into a redevelopment plan for the old Ken Trombley Arena site.

The RDKS is hosting an update meeting on Feb. 21 in Dease Lake on the state of the Dease Lake Volunteer Fire Department, whose operations remain suspended until sufficient qualified members complete the training program.

Bylaw 779—Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, via Microsoft Teams and in person at the RDKS 1st Floor Board Room at 4545 Lazelle Avenue in Terrace.

A new location, the same community-building result. The RDKS and partners hosted a successful Christmas tree Chipping for Charity event on Jan. 7. Residents brought non-perishable foods in exchange for their trees being disposed of. See the attached poster for the event's results.

Tipping fees are increasing in the Terrace Service Area as of January 2023. Tipping fees are raising in response to increased operating costs and to ensure an adequate reserve for landfill cell closures and future required cell expansions.

The Public Hearings originally scheduled for Jan. 4, 2023 to consider the RDKS Zoning Amendment Bylaws 776 & 777 have been rescheduled and will be held on separate days—Wednesday, Jan. 25 and Thursday, Jan. 26.

UPDATE—Churchill Drive Watermain Break: The water is back on to the affected residents between 2122 and 2160 Churchill Drive, and repairs have been made.

All RDKS Solid Waste Facilities will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day. There will be no RDKS curbside collection on Monday, Dec. 26. Monday’s route will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine has launched a free business assessment program to help businesses within the region access the professional expertise they need from a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).

Terrace, BC- October 20, 2022- Effective immediately, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) has made the difficult decision to suspend fire protection services (exterior operations – structural) until further notice in Dease Lake.

The Development Variance Permit (DVP) applications in question will first be reviewed at the Planning Committee meeting of the Regional District Board at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, 2022. The DVP applications will then be considered for approval by the Regional District Board at its regular meeting starting at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, 2022.

The Dease Lake Volunteer Fire Department is recruiting fire fighters. No experience necessary, training will be provided.

Please be advised that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Old Skeena River Bridge Rehabilitation Project will begin later this month.

The RDKS is updating the 1983 Zoning Bylaw for Thornhill. This project will review the existing land use regulations and update the bylaw consistent with the new Official Community Plan (OCP).

The RDKS and City of Terrace will host a Christmas tree collection event on Jan. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In exchange for disposing of your tree, please bring a non-perishable food item. All donations will go to local food banks in the Terrace area.

UPDATE Nov 26, 2021 11:15 a.m. On November 25, 2021 (8:30pm) there was a Tactical Evacuation and Alert due to unknown slope stability in Copperside Estates. All homes in red on the attached map were required to evacuate, homes in yellow were put on alert but strongly advised not to sleep in basement.
