RDKS to move to bag-free recycling to curb single-use plastics and streamline service
The RDKS solid waste management department is moving to bag-free recycling collection starting Monday, Nov. 29.
“Recycling collection is going bag-free to help reduce single-use plastics and harmonize service delivery with the City of Terrace & Recycle BC Stewardship program,” said Erin Blaney, RDKS Solid Waste Manager.
Recycle BC is the program responsible for residential printed paper and packaging recycling in BC, and the RDKS has been working towards integrating its curbside collection to their program—a move that will reduce costs to taxpayers.
Starting the week of Nov. 29, on scheduled recycling collection days, residents will be required to place their clean recyclable materials directly into their bin, which must be a secure, lidded collection container.
Residents need not worry if their recyclables exceed the limits of their collection container, added Blaney.
“There is no limit on the amount of recycling you may set out, and clear bags may still be used for additional materials when you have more than a bin-full.”
