Help us put trash where it belongs!
Illegal dumping is an ongoing challenge in our region, the province, and across Canada.
There are many options for getting rid of garbage or other unwanted items. If curbside pickup or public bins won't work, you can go to one of the many waste management facilities in the RDKS.
There are also several recycling facilities that accept items like tires, appliances, electronics and paint for free. (The Recycle Coach page can help!)
Remember that dumping garbage
- is illegal - you risk being fined
- increases the risk of wildfire
- increases the risk of danger to wildlife and humans
- damages the environment
What to do if you find an illegal dump site

Please report all suspected incidents of illegal dumping to the Conservation Officer Service by either using their 24 hr RAPP Line 1-877-952-7277 (1-877-952-RAPP), or submitting a report online here.
The majority of illegally dumped waste is managed by the provincial government. This is because in most cases illegal dumping occurs on road allowances or on crown land, which are managed by the province.
If you encounter an illegal dump site within the RDKS and decide to collect and dispose of the dumped waste in your weekly curbside, take note of the date, time, location, and nature of the items. The RDKS will waive the extra curbside bag tag fees.
Apply for the extra bag tags here. Photos also required of pre and post clean-up.
