South Hazelton's water system is scheduled for reservoir cleaning and maintenance from March 12 to 20.

WATER QUALITY ADVISORY

As a result of this maintenance, a water quality advisory is in effect for South Hazelton until further notice. A few items to note:

- The water quality advisory notice will be in effect until we receive satisfactory lab test results. We don’t anticipate that this will be for an extended period of time, however, we will advise when it’s complete.

- Higher turbidity (cloudiness) levels may occur.

- As a precautionary measure, people with weakened or undeveloped immune systems may wish to: boil water for at least one minute and let it cool before using; use bottled water; or, use an alternative approved source of water.

- You may notice elevated chlorine levels, however, this will be kept within the guidelines recommended by the regulating authority, the BC Water and Waste Association. An activated carbon filter, like a Brita filter, can be used to help with taste and odor.

WATER RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT

Because this system has limited capacity, we're asking South Hazelton residents to please conserve water during this timeframe. Conserving water will help ensure the limited reserve supply lasts for the duration of the maintenance work.

We appreciate your patience and thank South Hazelton for helping to conserve water for their community!

Water conservation tips:

  • Flush toilets only when necessary
  • Reduce shower times
  • Keep a water jug in the fridge to avoid running the tap for cold water
  • Use a dishwasher instead of handwashing, if possible
  •  Don’t leave taps running
  •  Only wash full loads of laundry
  •  Avoid washing vehicles if possible
  •  Avoid washing buildings, driveways, or patios
  •  Do not fill swimming pools
