Residents may have seen recent news reports about the rise of avian flu cases among birds in B.C. To prevent further spread of the disease, RDKS now requires residents and commercial customers to obtain a controlled waste permit before disposing of any deceased birds at RDKS facilities.
- Please note any bird carcasses must be double-bagged in 6-mil airtight plastic bags for proper disposal. This measure is in place to meet Ministry of Environment guidelines and to prevent the potential spread of avian flu.
- All commercial waste haulers are prohibited from disposing of birds at the Thornhill Transfer Station, Kitwanga Transfer Station, and Stewart Transfer Station.
